PROJECT DESCRIPTION —MAST has designed and constructed the WATER TOWER pavilion with Søuld, which forms the centerpiece of the Danish Architecture Centre’s exhibition Water Is Coming.

MAST has designed and constructed the WATER TOWER pavilion, which forms the centerpiece of the Danish Architecture Centre’s exhibition Water Is Coming. The exhibition is the first in Denmark to explore the future of water and its impact on how we build and live, presenting water as a central element in shaping our environments, with both positive and challenging implications.

Inspired by Denmark’s traditional ‘Sømærker’- wooden geometric structures once used to guide sailors along the coast - the 5 meter high WATER TOWER presents a conceptual approach to living on water. The pavilion reflects on the architectural possibilities of working with marine materials and offers a glimpse into how floating urban environments might function in response to rising sea levels.

Inside the WATER TOWER, visitors are invited to sit and immerse themselves in a sensory soundscape where rhythmic sounds of the sea blend with short text excerpts, evoking vivid images of daily life in future floating communities.

Surrounding the pavilion are architectural scale models of similar archetypal floating houses, offering deeper insights into the potential of maritime architecture. Together, these elements invite reflection on how architecture can adapt to the shifting relationship between land and water, sparking dialogue on future living solutions that integrate the resources of the sea.
